SureSync Support : Terminal Server & Terminal Services
This document applies to SureSync 4.Terminal Services and Terminal Server (TS) impose a strict installation routine that must be followed to ensure proper operation of SureSync. This document is meant to familiarize you with this routine and make you aware of some things you should avoid.
The Installation Routine
If you're installing from a SureSync installation CD, the installer will launch automatically when you place the CD in your computer. Cancel this installation.
You must install applications on TS machines through the Add/Remove Programs control panel. This puts the server into install mode and allows components to self-register correctly. If you do not do this, SureSync will not function properly. To perform this installation please follow the steps listed below.
For more information on TS and TS installation routines please refer to your Windows help. Technical Support is only able to provide assistance with the operation of SureSync.
For Windows 2000
- Go to the Start menu, then select Settings, and then Control Panel.
- Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click on CD or Floppy under "Add a program from a CD-ROM or Floppy". Select this even if you've downloaded the trial from the Internet and the install is on your hard drive.
- Click next. Windows will then search your floppy drive and your CD-ROM drive for installation programs. If you're installing from a SureSync CD it will fill the path in for you. Otherwise click browse.
- A browse window will now show up letting you select the SureSync install off your hard drive. Once you have done so click next.
- The installation will launch. Follow the on screen instructions.
- When the install completes you will be taken back to the wizard. Click next and then finish.
For Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server

Issues
- You may only run one database off of one installation of SureSync. This means all users must share the same database if they are sharing one installation of SureSync on a TS machine. If you attempt to open multiple databases off of the same installation of SureSync, you will run into errors.
- You must assign Windows permissions on the database for each user who will be accessing it. Without appropriate access you will get error messages from the Jet components asking for a password. We recommend Full Control for the users accessing the database.
- Do not store the database in any My Documents folder or any other location controlled by a profile. For example if you store the database in an administrator’s My Documents folder and a user without administrative rights attempts to access that database, Windows will deny them access. Instead choose a location like c:\Program Files\SureSync to avoid additional Windows permissions issues.
